Ramesh, S/o Mallappa (names changed) is a 32 year old young man. He is differently abled from Humnabad Taluk, Bidar (DT). Due to shortness of his left leg his mobility is restricted. He is educated up to PUC.
Ramesh was living with his family, of 5 members. His father is a farmer and his mother, a house wife. His brother works in a Bar as supplier. His younger brother is agricultural labourer. Inspite of his inability and difficulties Ramesh was working with his father helping in cultivation. The defect in his leg could not be rectified though he tried for treatment. Life was not quite pleasant for him.
Ramesh happened to attend awareness cum screening camp organized by ORBIT staff under National Leprosy Eradication (NGO Scheme) Programme. After the awareness, Ramesh was detected with paucibacillary (PB) leprosy during screening.
The staff discussed with him and provided all the information on Leprosy. He was advised and accompanied to undergo treatment. He completed six months long MDT (Multi drugs therapy) successfully. The staff also helped him to get disability ID card. Ramesh was given MCR- (Micro cellular rubber) footwear too. It enabled him to move from one place to another easily and without much pain. As a beneficiary of Disability Card, he began getting pension from govt.
Gradually he got a job in Pragathi Krishna Gramina Bank Humnabad as a Pigmy Collector and now he is earning Rs. 5000/- monthly.
Ramesh got married and presently is leading a happy life with his wife and he has a smile on his face of dreams realized.
