Life blossomed of Meremma

Meremma lives in Bathramba village, Bhalki Taluk, Bidar District. Daya Sagar SHG is one of the groups she belongs to. She lives with her husband and three children: a boy, and two girls. Her husband works as a painter in the local area. She comes from a poor family. Her husband's income wasn't enough to support her family.  The income of her husband made it difficult for her to educate her three children.

The present situation of her family is better than earlier. Through the intervention of ORBIT staff, Meremma got to know about the women empowerment program, and SHG groups initiated by ORBIT which works for the empowerment of the women. Later she expressed her desire to join the SHG. It’s been 15 years she is in the same SHG. She took a loan of 50,000 and from Samruddi scheme 25,000. As a result of taking loan she bought 5 goats. Every year the goats increased and by selling this she used to run the family and educate the children as well.

At present there are many goats she is also earning the money by going to the coolly work. Through the goat raring Meremma was able to improve the economic condition of her family. Her children are regularly going to the school now. She participated in the awareness programs organized for the SHG members and acquired information on Panchayath, health, leadership, etc. and learned about the schemes and entitlements available from various departments. Her social life expanded as she interacted with other members of the society. She related with everyone amiably and the people liked her approach.

Meremma is grateful to ORBIT for all the support and knowledge she has received from ORBIT . Though her income was limited, she was punctual in her savings. She has been convinced of the value of education and wanted her children to be educated. Thus she was punctual in her savings.
