Family Background:
Somanath’s family has five members his wife and three children. They are a poor family. About seven years ago, Somanath used to work as a daily-wage laborer and lived peacefully with his family. Later, he gradually began crying, shouting, quarrelling, stopped working, stayed in bed all day, and fell into depression.
Reason for the Illness:
He fell down from a vehicle while driving and subsequently developed depression.
Symptoms:
He stopped leaving the house, avoided talking to anyone, became easily angry, quarrelled often, struggled to sleep, and attempted to harm others.
Help from ORBIT Organization:
About a year ago, ORBIT’s Navajeevana animator, Mrs. Pooja, visited his home during a survey. The ASHA worker informed her about Somanath’s mental illness. After visiting the home, she convinced his wife that this is a treatable mental illness and that government hospitals provide free treatment. She successfully brought him to the District Mental Health Program (DMHP) camp and ensured he received medication. Now he takes his daily medicines and has improved considerably.
Current Status:
He now speaks to everyone, sleeps well at night, and thanks ORBIT organization wholeheartedly for his improved health.
