ORBIT

(Organization of Bidar Integral Transformation)

ORBIT is a social development organization established in 1993 in Bhalki Taluk, Bidar District. Registered under the Trust Act of India, ORBIT now operates from its administrative office in Humnabad Taluk and serves communities across Bidar and Kalaburagi districts of North Karnataka.
For over three decades, ORBIT has worked with a mission to empower marginalized communities, strengthen grassroots institutions, and promote sustainable development through people’s participation.

Our Core Objectives

• Strengthen Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) as partners of social change.
• Reduce economic vulnerability among marginalized families in the project areas.
• Promote collaborative development initiatives for children, women, and persons with disabilities.
• Revive and promote traditional and sustainable agricultural practices.
• Enhance the quality of natural resources and ecological balance in the region.

1. Women Empowerment Program (WEP)

ORBIT champions the social, economic, and political empowerment of women by organizing them into Self Help Groups (SHGs), Cluster Federations, Taluk Federations, and District Federations.
Through regular savings, credit activities, capacity-building sessions, and rights-based training, women are becoming confident leaders in their homes and communities.

2. Early Intervention & Early Education (EI&EE)

This program focuses on identifying developmental delays among children aged 0–8 years and offering timely intervention.

ORBIT provides:
• Screening and assessment
• Therapy and home-based support
• Guidance to parents
• Awareness among teachers, health workers and communities

In partnership with The Association of People with Disability (APD), Bangalore, ORBIT identified 215 children with developmental delays in Humnabad and Chitguppa and supported them toward improved functional and developmental outcomes.

3. Eco Bloom Initiatives

Environmental protection remains a central concern as Bidar faces rising temperatures, reduced green cover, irregular rainfall, and pollution.
Through the Eco Bloom Initiatives, ORBIT works to build an ecologically conscious society by:
• Planting thousands of saplings across villages
• Conducting school and college awareness programs
• Promoting waste management, clean surroundings, and eco-friendly lifestyles
• Encouraging community participation through SHGs, youth groups, and institutions
• The goal is to create a healthier, greener, and climate-resilient future for the people of Bidar.

4. Entrepreneurship Initiatives

To enhance economic stability among SHG members and marginalized families, ORBIT promotes sustainable livelihood opportunities such as:
• Petty shops
• Tailoring and garment work
• Dairy and goat rearing
• Poultry-based livelihoods
• Skill and entrepreneurship development

The program provides training, credit linkages, business planning support, and continuous follow-up to ensure long-term sustainability. This initiative aims to help families secure steady income and lead a dignified life.

5. Jan Jagruti Munch

Jan Jagruti Munch is a community-led platform that brings together empowered leaders from marginalized communities to take collective action on:
• Health – promoting nutrition, hygiene, preventive healthcare, and access to government schemes.
• Environment – strengthening village-level ecological awareness and protection activities.
• Empowerment – facilitating community rights education, social leadership, and access to entitlements.

Through this platform, communities learn to organize, participate, and advocate for their own development.

6. Navajeevana – Mental Health Reintegration Program

Rural areas face a severe lack of awareness, access, and acceptance of mental health. Superstitions, stigma, and reliance on unscientific practices often worsen the situation.
Through the Navajeevana Program, supported by the Azim Premji Foundation and Live, Love, Laugh Foundation, ORBIT:
• Identifies persons with mental illness across five taluks
• Connects them to District Mental Health Program (DMHP) services
• Provides counselling and family support
• Builds awareness to reduce stigma and promote scientific understanding

Thousands of individuals have been identified, treated, and reintegrated into the community with hope and dignity.

7. SwaPrerit – Empowering HIV-Infected & Affected Adolescents

Supported by the Garima Foundation, Netherlands, SwaPrerit empowers HIV-infected and affected adolescents—many of whom are orphans or semi-orphans.
The project focuses on:
• Educational support
• Nutrition and health care
• Livelihood skills training
• Life skills and psychosocial support
• Reducing stigma and building resilience

SwaPrerit enables these young individuals to dream again and build a secure and dignified future.

8. Cancer Campaign & Awareness Program

Cancer is often detected late due to limited awareness in rural areas.
ORBIT’s Cancer Campaign includes:
• Awareness sessions on early detection and prevention
• Health screening camps
• Referral and support for timely treatment
• Financial assistance for cancer-affected families

This initiative brings hope and timely help to vulnerable families facing the burden of cancer.

9. Hope Evening Tution Centre

ORBIT’s Hope Evening Tuition Centre provides learning support to children from slum and low-income families. These centres offer a safe environment where children receive academic guidance, value education, and motivation to succeed in school. The initiative helps bridge learning gaps and nurtures confidence among children who lack educational support at home.

Aim
To improve the academic performance and holistic development of slum children by providing daily tuition support and a positive learning atmosphere.

Objectives
• To strengthen children’s reading, writing, and basic mathematics skills.
• To provide regular homework support and improve school performance.
• To create a safe, engaging space for learning through creative activities.
• To build discipline, confidence, and good values among children.
