Sangeeta – Regaining Stability through SHG Support
Name: Sangeeta
Husband’s Name: Sundar
Village: Indira Nagar
Taluk: Humnabad
District: Bidar
Background: Mrs. Sangeeta is a resident of Indira Nagar. She was married to a man from Sindankera village. She has two sons and one daughter. She stayed at home as a homemaker, and later worked for some time as an ASHA worker. Due to family issues, she left the job and stayed at her maternal home, struggling with emotional and financial difficulties.
Problem & Solution: Under ORBIT’s leadership, the Jyoti Self-Help Group was formed and Mrs. Sangeeta became a member. She was given orientation on the purpose of SHGs, including savings, collective strength, economic empowerment, mutual support, and problem-solving.
Support from ORBIT: She received awareness sessions on “Women are not weak but strong,” along with training on self-employment. She took an internal SHG loan of ₹15,000 and an additional ₹35,000 loan from the Samruddhi scheme (total ₹50,000), with which she bought a sewing machine and a pico/fall machine.
Reflection: At a time when she was trapped in family issues, ORBIT staff (especially Savita) supported her by bringing her into the SHG. Using the training she received, she started tailoring work. She now earns ₹500 to ₹1,000 per day and her household is stable and happy. Her children’s education and daily expenses are taken care of. She and her family wholeheartedly thank ORBIT and say she will always remain grateful to the organization.
