Name: Paramma
Village: Belakhera
Taluk: Chitgupa
District: Bidar
Background of the Person
Mrs. Paramma is a resident of Belakhera village and was living in extreme poverty. Having lost her husband, she was living a widowed life. She has three daughters and two sons. She raised her children by doing wage labour and could provide them only basic primary education.
Problem & Its Solution
Mrs. Paramma was going through a very difficult phase raising her children and ensuring their education was a huge challenge. During this time, she joined the Sanjana Women Self-Help Group. After joining the SHG, she took a loan and purchased a sewing machine for her daughter. With this, the daughter started stitching blouses for ₹200 each and earned nearly ₹600 per day. With some savings from this income, they later opened a small
grocery shop.
Now, Paramma herself runs the grocery shop, earning ₹300–₹400 per day. Both mother and daughter are earning and managing the household. After expenses, the family earns ₹800–₹1,000 per day.
The field staff provided multiple training programs and built her confidence — especially self-employment training, which helped her establish her livelihood. She also learned how to visit and access services from government departments. With improved skills and confidence, she now moves everywhere boldly and independently.
