Nijalingappa is married and has two children. His wife was the only earning member, but due to their severe financial problems, she left him. He now lives with his mother. He lost a large amount of money due to gambling activities such as vessels and other betting games. This financial loss and stress led to the development of a mental health condition.

Symptoms:
• Not speaking to anyone
• Throwing stones
• Throwing household items
• Getting angry when spoken to
• Wandering away from home
• Not bathing or wearing clothes properly

Support from ORBIT:
Under ORBIT’s Navajeevana Programme, field animator Mrs. Mahadevi visited his home during a survey with the ASHA worker. Seeing his condition, they informed the family about mental illness and the availability of treatment.

The family had earlier taken him to multiple religious places, temples, and traditional healers, believing it was something supernatural, but his condition did not improve.

His elder brother was advised to bring him to the Government Hospital, Humnabad, on Wednesdays for free treatment under the DMHP camp. After repeated visits and guidance from ORBIT staff, the family brought him to the camp, where he received free check-ups and medication.

Present Condition:
Nijalingappa now helps with small tasks at home and the family’s farm. His brother has given him goats to tend, and he takes them for grazing. He fills water, feeds the goats, and speaks a little with family members.

His father, Shamrao, has expressed deep gratitude to ORBIT for helping them access free treatment and supporting his recovery.
