Families Who Obtained a CC Road through an Application

Background: The NREGA group belongs to Hilalapur village of Humnabad taluk. They are from economically poor families. Under the guidance of ORBIT organization, the NREGA group was formed with 25 members. They possess BPL cards and earn their livelihood through daily wage labour. About 50 families live in the lane where the NREGA group members reside.

Problem and Solution: For many years, there was no road in their lane. It was very difficult for people children, elders, and others to move around. This issue was discussed in the NREGA group meeting. They decided to submit an application to the Gram Panchayat and also discuss the issue with the ward member. ORBIT staff and coordinators guided them to participate in Gram Sabha and Ward Sabha meetings and talk about their problems. They received training on leadership, government schemes, women’s rights, employment guarantee, etc. On 27/11/2023, an application for CC road and drainage construction was submitted.

Support from ORBIT: ORBIT staff helped the NREGA group write the application and took women, youth, and men together to the Gram Panchayat to submit the application twice. They repeatedly met the Panchayat member. As a result of the application and continued follow-up, in February 2024, a CC road was constructed in their lane. People in the area now find it convenient to move around. Panchayat members responded positively to the request made through ORBIT staff.

Feedback: The villagers said ORBIT staff shared valuable information, helped them build connections with officials, boosted their confidence, and developed communication skills. They expressed their gratitude to ORBIT for helping solve their problem.
