Setteing Job and Family Improvement
Name: Mumtaz
Age: 40
Village: Bhaskar Nagar
Education: Illiterate
Taluk: Chitguppa
District: Bidar

Background of the Person: Mrs. Mamtataz is a member of the Mahek Self-Help Group formed under the guidance of ORBIT in Bhaskar Nagar, Chittaguppa Taluk, Bidar district. She has two children — one son and one daughter. Her husband has passed away. She owns a house and has a BPL ration card but does not have any farmland. Her son works as a security guard.

Problem: After her husband’s death, her son had to manage the family alone with his earnings, which was very difficult. Her son is married and has three children. After sending the children to school, he would spend the rest of the time idly at home. During this time, they wanted to start some form of self-employment.

Support from ORBIT: At this time, ORBIT staff organized small enterprise training. Mrs. Mamtataz participated in this training and, after discussions with the coordinators and her son, received guidance to start a small-scale threading (setting) business to avoid her son going for wage labor. With family discussions, they took a loan of ₹25,000 from the Samruddhi scheme and ₹30,000 from the bank, totaling ₹55,000, to purchase threading equipment and start their own business.

Her son initially started small but gradually expanded the work. Now, they earn a daily profit of ₹1,000 to ₹1,500.

Opinion / Experience: Previously, her son had nothing to do and spent time idly, only working as a wage laborer when needed. Now, with the equipment available at home, he can work productively. She expressed heartfelt gratitude to ORBIT and the Samruddhi scheme for supporting them and helping them establish this self-employment opportunity.
