Family Background:
Manikappa lives in Chinaker village. His family is very poor, and only his son is working, which makes their financial condition very difficult.

He developed a mental illness due to a prolonged family dispute over agricultural land. His brothers refused to give him his share of the land, which caused severe stress and led to his condition.

Symptoms:
• Hitting his wife and children
• Frequent quarrelling
• Inability to stay peacefully with family
• Staying isolated and withdrawn

Support from ORBIT:
During a survey under the Navajeevana Programme, ORBIT staff learned about his condition. He had been suffering for 18 years and was earlier taken to private hospitals in Kalaburagi and Bidar, where doctors treated him.

However, due to financial problems, the family could not continue buying medicines, and he was kept at home without treatment.

The ORBIT team informed them about the DMHP camp at the Government Hospital. He was brought to the camp, examined by doctors, and provided free medication.

Present Condition:
Manikappa now performs small household tasks. His medication has been gradually reduced due to improvement. His aggressive behavior shouting, hitting, and throwing things has significantly reduced.

He now works, sings songs, and plays the traditional instruments. He has expressed heartfelt gratitude to ORBIT for helping him receive free medicines and regain stability in life.
