Name: Lokesh
Father’s Name: Vaijnath
Age: 23
Village: Kanakatta
Taluk: Humnabad

Family Background:
Lokesh belongs to a very poor family. His parents strongly believe in superstitions. His father is the only earning member.

Cause of Illness:
One night, while returning home from the fields, Lokesh suddenly heard loud and frightening screams. This terrified him, and he developed fever and severe fear. A few days later, he began showing symptoms of mental illness.

Symptoms:
• Staying naked
• Carrying stones in his hand
• Attacking anyone who speaks to him
• Eating, sleeping, and defecating in the same place
• Not speaking to anyone
• Throwing stones and objects
• Anger when spoken to
• Wandering away from home
• Not bathing or wearing clothes

Support from ORBIT:
During a survey under ORBIT’s Navajeevana Programme, Mrs. Mahadevi identified Lokesh’s condition and explained to the family about mental illness and treatment options.

They were advised to bring him to the Government Hospital, Humnabad, on Wednesdays for free DMHP check-ups and medicines. After regular follow-up visits by ORBIT staff, the family finally brought him for treatment and collected the free medicines.

Present Condition:
Lokesh now goes to the family farm and does small tasks. His elder brother has given him goats to care for. He also fills water, gives water and fodder to cattle, and helps with small household chores.

He interacts with family members, and his behaviour has improved significantly. His father, Vaijnath, and the family have expressed their gratitude to ORBIT for helping him receive free treatment.
