Husband: Narayan
Village: Nittur
Family Background:Mrs. Lalitha is a resident of Nitturu village and is illiterate. She has two children and owns her own house. She holds a BPL card and stays at home, while her husband works as a daily wage laborer.
Problem and Solution:Managing the household on her husband’s income alone was very difficult. Therefore, she joined the Jai Hanuman Self-Help Group and learned about various self-employment opportunities such as sheep rearing and running a grocery shop. Using the skills she had, she wanted to start tailoring but did not have the funds. With a loan of ₹10,000 from the SHG, she purchased a sewing machine for stitching clothes and began her own enterprise.
Changed Situation: She started tailoring clothes, and many customers now come to get their clothes stitched. As a result, she earns about ₹300 per day and ₹500 per week. This additional income has made it easier for her to manage household expenses.
Beneficiary’s Opinion: She expressed that the ORBIT organization staff helped them understand the concept of SHGs and provided support when they had no prior knowledge. By joining the SHG and attending multiple trainings, she was able to start her own employment. She also mentioned that being part of the ORBIT-supported SHG helped her build networks with government departments and enabled her to work independently. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all ORBIT staff on behalf of herself and her family.
