Laxmi – Strengthening Education and Household Economy

Background: Mrs. Lakshmi is a resident of Belkeri. She has two children one son and one daughter. Her husband worked as a daily laborer and managed the household. With a growing family and low income, it became extremely difficult to run the home and educate the children.

Problem & Solution: ORBIT formed the Sevantige Women’s SHG and Lakshmi became a member. She was oriented on SHG concepts, savings, problem-solving, and mutual support. Through the SHG’s internal loan facility, she financed her children's education.

Support from ORBIT: She received training on leadership, Panchayat Raj, self-employment, domestic violence, and more. Motivated by ORBIT’s message that “a woman is not weak but strong,” she took livestock training and availed a ₹35,000 Samruddhi loan to purchase two goats. She collected fodder on the way home from field work and reared them.

Lakshmi said ORBIT’s guidance brought strength and courage into her life. She now earns ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 from selling goats. She is able to educate her children and manage household expenses. She expressed heartfelt thanks to ORBIT and Samruddhi for transforming her life.
