Village Background: In Block No. 2 of Sittalgeri village, there was no drainage system. Water from houses used to stagnate in the lane, causing a foul smell and difficulty for residents.

Problem and Solution: ORBIT helped form four self-help groups in Sittalgeri. Training was given regularly, and later a federation was formed and named Kiran Mahasangha. For around seven years, monthly meetings and several training sessions were conducted. As a result, federation leaders submitted an application to the Gram Panchayat for drainage construction and repeatedly followed up with the Panchayat Development Officer (PDO).

Support from ORBIT: Members of the Kiran Federation submitted the application and met the PDO and Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer. ORBIT staff brought the officials to the location to show them the problem. The officers took note of the issue raised by the women and sanctioned the drainage construction, which is now completed. It has provided great relief to the residents.

Outcome: The women expressed gratitude for the trainings and support that strengthened their network with officials and helped them resolve their local issues.
