Name: Abdul Sammad
Father’s Name: Sharif Miya
Age: 36
Village: Hudugi
Family Background:
Abdul Sammad is a resident of Hudugi village in Humnabad taluk, belonging to a poor family. They do not have a proper house to live in. He lives with two elder/younger brothers, his father, and sister-in-law. The family responsibilities are taken care of by his father, who works as a labourer in others’ fields and earns wages.
Reason for Illness:
Though it has been six years since his marriage, they did not have children. Because of this, he used to beat and assault his wife. She left for her parental home. Due to this situation, Abdul Sammad developed mental illness.
Symptoms:
He sees things that others cannot see, hears sounds that others cannot hear, collects useless items, wanders without purpose, keeps his mouth open, does not take a bath, avoids mingling with people, shows no interest in work, lacks personal hygiene, is careless about clothing, cannot sleep, and does not respond to anyone’s words.
Before ORBITOrganization’s Intervention:
Six years ago, he was taken to a private hospital in Kalaburagi for treatment. Since there was no improvement in his symptoms, the treatment was discontinued.
ORBIT Organization’s Help:
In 2023, the staff of ORBIT Organization identified him and convinced the family to bring him to the free DMHP camp at the Humnabad Government Hospital. He attended the camp regularly, took the medicines without fail, and received regular home-visits and daily activity guidance. Because of this, his symptoms reduced.
The family expressed their gratitude saying that ORBIT Organization played a very important role in improving his health and saving money.
Current Condition:
Due to regular medication and ORBIT’s Counselling and guidance, Abdul Sammad has shown improvement. He has reduced wandering, started maintaining personal hygiene, sleeps on time, reduced aggressive behaviour, takes bath, brushes his teeth, wears proper clothes, and has begun socializing. The family has wholeheartedly thanked ORBIT Organization.
