Early Intervention and early education programs involve identifying /screening children with developmental delays in the age group of 0-8 years, providing necessary intervention after proper assessment, empowering parents to enable them to deal with the special needs of their disabled child, and creating awareness amongst various stakeholders for ensuring the functional, developmental and coping abilities of children. With the support of APD Bangalore ORBIT was able to identify 215 delayed developmental children in Humnabad and Chitguppa taluk of Bidar district in 2023-2024.

Goal

To strengthen the ecosystem for early-stage intervention and early education (EI & EE) for 200 children with disabilities/development delays of Bidar District in the age group of 0-8 years and the relevant stakeholders through therapeutic and support services.

ACTIVITIES

Identification of 200 Children through door-to-door survey.
Assessment of the Child with a disability to classify the disability

Regular Interventions

Counselling to Parents about the Disability and their roles and responsibilities. Assessment for Medical Help like Surgeries, Medicine, Hearing and Speech Therapyetc. Home/community-based services, Hearing and Speech Therapy Distribution of assistive devices

Growth assessment

Awareness in communities, schools, and colleges, about the causes of disability and prevention.
Training ASHAs, Anganwadi Staff, and ANMs about the Early Intervention program and their role.

Availing of Govt. schemes

Enrolling children in Anganwadi and schools under inclusive education.

Ecosystem created for all the children with developmental delays with accessibility to need-based intervention, education support, and entitlements.

Full-fledged resource centre in the district.
Effective implementation of Dist. EI program of the Govt in the district as well as in Taluk by increased referrals and active program.
Increase in number of screening and identification of children with developmental delays.
Informed and equipped parents to support their children with special needs and emergence of parent champions
Trained ASHA, ICDS, VRWs, MRWs, and ANM staff on knowledge of normal child development impacting more referrals and better implementation of the EI & EE program
Increase in the number of admissions of children in the Anganwadis and schools.
Informed communities on causes of disabilities and ways and means to mitigate it.
